Three common analytics techniques in use

Three common analytics techniques in use

Vanity marketing is where a business owner thinks their doing well because the numbers are big - At first this can seem great but it can show a problem.
It's like having a balloon full of water and wondering why its not floating.

  • The balloon being the business
  • With the water being unused customers
  • With the air being people actually buying the product.

What we want is to take the water and convert them to air i.e. take existing viewers and convert them to customers and eventually promoters (like helium in the example) so what exactly would u suggest to help those numbers?

Well a pump of course, try these ones:

Pump #1 : traffic - This your potential client pool, they could appear by the following methods:

  • Organic: Those who have typed in a query and come to your site because it showed up on a search engine results page (SERP)
    /anyone seeing your game (organic)
  • Direct: Those who typed in the URL to get directly to your site
someone directly approaching your game page (direct)
  • Referral: Those who came from another website via link
  • Social: Those who were directed from social media to your site
  • Paid: Those that have clicked on a paid ad or promoted piece of content. (Dickey, 2021)
  • You can combine any one of these like having someone like a Youtuber or celebrity who you pay to promote your content and give a link to your content (promoting it directly), but it can also be a banner ad or video telling the same information to other people in a different format.

Pump#2: Another common technique is Engagement.
To me this sounds great but can develop Pseudo-Socio relationships (which are often a bad thing).
A pseudo-socio relationship is essentially the same as a normal relationship but is a 1 way relationship. Where the creator makes content the viewer enjoys. This can develop into a relationship where the viewer thinks they know the creator even though they have never met. Some people would advise taking advantage of this and push selling products to this viewer - I see this as a terrible idea as its not good for your brand or for your audience and can be detrimental in the long run, all it does is increase sales (short term).

Now what does any of this have to do with Engagement?
Well Engagement is the term used to describe the act of commenting, subscribing, sharing or liking content. Most of the time this is harmless and often used on social media as a way to discuss something. Engagement when used properly can be a great way to Expand your user base and have the current audience feel listened to. Just because a video doesn't great views, doesn't make it less important as you could use it as a reference point later on (provided you keep it online).

Pump#3  Click Through Rate (also known as CTRs)
Ever watched an ad and though "huh that's neat" then clicked on it and been taken to its store page?
Well that is exactly the thing we are talking about. CTRs are way of checking your advertising is effective by comparing the number of times the ad is watched compared to the number of people who actually click on the link / do something about it.
Think about it - how many time have you watched an ad and thought "oh come on, I don't care, go away" compared to "that's actually pretty neat".
I'm assuming your "go away" count is higher? Sometimes this can be used to intentionally make you as a consumer think about the product, yes it's annoying but your still thinking about it later aren't ya?
This also used on Social media sites like Youtube, where "clickbait" can be used effectively to entice a potential viewer to watch your content. This doesn't have to be used this way, but commonly is as There is sooooo much content to watch online so is used as an easy way to get people to watch.

Hopefully using some of these techniques makes it easier for your product to sell / balloon to inflate.
